The Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center –
VASCIC – was established in 1998 by the Commonwealth of Virginia's General
Assembly. The purpose of VASCIC is to enhance and promote
the quality and competitiveness of Virginia’s shipbuilding industry
and to promote the general welfare of Virginia citizens.
Northrop Grumman Newport News will manage VASCIC. In this state-of-the-art
facility, Newport News along with electronic system suppliers, software suppliers,
U.S. Navy laboratories and program representatives, and Virginia institutions
of higher learning, will develop new technologies for aircraft carriers
and advanced shipbuilding.
